The Sky Tree Secret: A Tokyo Adventure, Chapter 2

Chapter 2: The Hidden Elevator

The maintenance hallway was narrow, dimly lit, and smelled faintly of machine oil. Aiko tiptoed behind Haru, her heart pounding in her chest. Tama’s glowing eyes lit up their path as it trotted ahead.

“This doesn’t feel very tourist-friendly,” Aiko whispered.

“It’s fine!” Haru said confidently. “We’ll just take a quick look and—”

Before he could finish, Tama stopped in front of a small metal panel beside an unmarked door. It let out a cheerful meow sound.

“What did it find?” Aiko asked.

Haru crouched down. The panel had a keypad and a small screen that read:

     ‘ACCESS CODE REQUIRED.’

“Oh no,” Haru muttered. “We’re stuck.”

But Tama was already moving. Its tiny metallic paw reached out, tapping the keypad in a rapid sequence: 6-3-4.

There was a soft ding, and the door slid open.

     “Haru…” Aiko’s voice wavered.

But Haru’s curiosity was stronger than his fear. Inside was an old elevator with a brass handle and faintly glowing buttons—none of which had floor numbers. Instead, there was only one label: SKY ROOM.

“Sky Room?” Haru read aloud. “That’s not on the map.”

Aiko tugged at his sleeve. “Maybe we shouldn’t—”

But Haru had already stepped inside, pulling Aiko along. Tama hopped in after them. The door closed with a faint hiss.

The elevator began to rise—silently, smoothly, and much faster than any of the other elevators they’d ridden.

“What do you think is up there?” Aiko asked, clutching Tama tightly.

“I don’t know,” Haru admitted. “But we’re about to find out.”
