The Sky Tree Secret: A Tokyo Adventure, Chapter 7
Chapter 7: The Escape Plan
The shadowy figure stepped closer, the faint glow of the koi pond reflecting off his sunglasses. In one hand, he held a small remote control, his thumb hovering over a red button.
“Hand over the shard, boy,” he said, his voice low and menacing.
Haru’s mind raced. The crystal shard in his hand pulsed with a faint blue glow, as if sensing danger. Aiko clutched Tama tightly, her eyes wide with fear.
“Don’t do it, Haru!” Aiko whispered.
The man took another step forward, his coat brushing against the stone path.
“Alright,” Haru said, raising his hand slightly. “But… can I at least put it down gently? It looks… fragile.”
The man hesitated, his brow furrowing. “Fine. Slowly.”
Haru knelt down by the edge of the koi pond, holding the glowing shard above the water. As he did, he made eye contact with Tama, who gave a faint metallic meow.
Now.
“Run!” Haru shouted.
In one swift motion, Haru tossed the shard—not into the pond, but toward Aiko, who caught it and dashed away. Tama sprang to life, leaping onto the man’s arm and sinking its tiny metallic claws into his coat.
“Argh! Get off me, you scrap heap!” the man shouted, fumbling with the remote.
Haru lunged, knocking the remote from the man’s hand and sending it skidding across the stone path.
“Go, Aiko!” Haru yelled.
The siblings sprinted through the park, Tama bounding after them. Behind them, the shadowy figure roared in frustration, his footsteps fading as they disappeared into the trees.
They stopped near a quiet pavilion deep in Ueno Park, gasping for air. Aiko clutched the shard tightly against her chest.
“That was… way too close,” she said, her voice trembling.
Tama let out a tired meow and flopped onto Haru’s shoulder.
“Who is that guy?” Haru asked, wiping sweat from his forehead.
Aiko shook her head. “Whoever he is, he knows about the shard… and he’s not going to stop until he gets it.”
Haru carefully unfolded the map again. A faint blue glow illuminated a third symbol: a giant clock face and what looked like a Ferris wheel.
“Where’s that?” Aiko asked.
Haru smiled faintly. “It’s the Palette Town Ferris Wheel in Odaiba. We need to get there—fast.”
