Chapter 10: The Final Destination
The train glided smoothly into Haneda Airport Station. The bright lights of the terminal reflected off polished floors, and travelers bustled in every direction, pulling luggage and checking flight schedules.
Haru, Aiko, and Tama stepped out of the train, clutching the crystal shard, the silver key, and the map tightly.
“Where do we even start?” Aiko asked, her voice small in the vastness of the airport.
Haru unfolded the map one last time. The final clue echoed in his head:
“At the gate where steel birds rest, the final light awaits.”
“Steel birds… airplanes. It must be near the runways,” Haru said, scanning the signs.
Tama let out an urgent meow and pointed its metal paw toward a sign that read: Observation Deck →.
“That’s it! The Observation Deck!” Haru said.
The trio weaved through the crowds, past souvenir shops and food stalls, finally arriving at a set of glass doors leading to the outdoor Observation Deck.
The night air was cool and smelled faintly of jet fuel. Airplanes glittered under floodlights, their wings spread like sleeping giants.
“Where do we look now?” Aiko asked.
Haru squinted at the map and then at the railing lining the deck. There, nestled in a corner where tourists rarely ventured, was an old metal locker—its paint chipped, its lock rusted.
Haru pulled out the silver key and hesitated.
“This is it,” he whispered.
He turned the key, and with a faint click, the locker creaked open. Inside sat a small glass box, glowing faintly with an ethereal blue light.
“It’s the crystal shard!” Aiko said breathlessly.
But before Haru could reach for it, a chilling voice spoke from behind them.
“Well done, children. But I’ll take it from here.”
The shadowy figure stepped out of the darkness, a sly grin stretched across his face.
