Chapter 6: The Golden Pond

The Ueno Park koi pond shimmered under the soft moonlight. The gentle sound of water and the faint chirping of crickets surrounded them as Haru, Aiko, and Tama crept along the stone path.

“Okay, the clue said something about golden fish,” Haru whispered.

The pond was full of koi fish, their golden scales glimmering as they swam lazily beneath the surface.

Tama’s eyes glowed blue as it scanned the water. It let out a soft meow and pointed with its metallic paw toward a small stone lantern at the edge of the pond.

“There!” Aiko said.

They knelt by the lantern and spotted a faint blue glow coming from inside. Haru reached in and carefully pulled out a small glass vial. Inside was a tiny glowing crystal fragment.

“The shard!” Aiko gasped.

But as Haru held the vial up to the light, a voice echoed from the shadows.

“Congratulations, children. You’ve found the first piece.”

They spun around. Standing on the other side of the pond was the shadowy figure from the bridge. This time, he held something in his hand—a small remote control.

“Now, hand it over, or this park might just have an… unexpected accident,” he said with a crooked smile.

The glow from the shard reflected in Haru’s eyes as he clenched the vial tightly.

“What do we do, Haru?” Aiko whispered.

Haru’s mind raced. They had to protect the shard… but how?

As the man stepped closer, Tama let out an urgent meow, its tail twitching.

“Trust me,” Haru said softly to Aiko.

The shadowy figure took another step forward. The night air was thick with tension.
